It began in a yellow sketchbook

When I was ten years old, growing up in the Blue Mountains west of Sydney, Australia, I loved to draw. Dragons particularly fascinated me, and somewhere along the way those drawings became a story about a lonely dragon who fell sick, and a young boy determined to save him.

I made the book in a yellow A4 landscape Spirax sketchbook. I drew every illustration by hand, then typed the story on our family computer and printed it out on our black and white HP printer.

My parents kept that little yellow sketchbook safe. Many years later, I decided to take that original idea and turn it into the book you are holding now.

We exist to unlock the potential of imagination by sharing stories, ideas and creativity with the world.

A story should not have to stay on the page. It can become a character on a shirt, a sticker on a lunchbox, a film, or a world to play in.

The Lonely Dragon is where we begin. It will not be where we stop.
